Enhanced cooking skills, insight on nutrition, and healthier eating habits. These are just a few of the things that food classes offer when added to a school´s learning curriculum. This year, Louisville High School introduced a new foods teacher, Mrs. Skorupa, to strengthen this area in students´ learning.
Skorupa has made several changes to the foods program. Many students in the middle and high school have said they have seen cleaner kitchen spaces, better organization, and a higher number of cooking labs. It's safe to say that these changes can be credited to a new teacher.
Eighth grader Chaeli Barry said, “Mrs. Skorupa has 100% made a positive impact on the program.”
While the main goal of these classes is still meant to teach kids new skills and lessons, that doesn't mean that these classes aren't fun.
Mrs. Skorupa said, “To be honest with you, it’s fun. It’s hands on, for sure. It makes the class pretty cool.”
What high schooler doesn't want the freedom to make whatever they want, from fudgy brownies to a complex breakfast buffet?
Sophomore Kamdyn Olson stated, "My favorite foods lab was probably the smoothies because it was easy and fun.” Skorupa has introduced other labs such as cookies, ramen noodle stir fry, and potato soup.
Mrs. Skorupa has made a positive impact both inside and outside of the classroom.
Olson said, ¨Mrs. Skorupa has definitely made an impact on Louisville, not only in the foods department, but like the people in those classes, like everyone loves seeing her.”
Mrs. Skorupa has made a lasting impact on the foods program here at Louisville. Whether it's little changes within the kitchen, or bigger ones in the students´ lives.
