It’s not just any business. It’s two high school friends who made a business from scratch. Junior Jager Barnes and senior Landon Voss are students, athletes, and actors, and now business owners as well.
These two students put more into their busy lives on top of having a sport or activity every season. They’ve made a name for themselves with their business J&L Detailing. Using Voss’s dad’s shop in Louisville, Nebraska as their base of operation, they have also gone out of their way to put themselves out there with an Instagram account (jl_detailing402) and website ( https://www.jldetailing.net/ )
Barnes said, “I’ve always been into cars. I needed money to fund my addiction to working on cars, so it all kind of just fell together, and with Landon and his dad's shop, then it all just worked out.”
Voss participates in work release, which has allowed him extra time to expand their business and bring new services such as tinting and expanding their detailing to boats and other vehicles. Voss will soon be leaving for college and has to think about what he will do once the time comes around whether he will keep the business or leave his part of it.
Voss said, “College is very soon. I have done a lot thinking of what my plan will be and selling my share and continuing my business plan and get a business degree and start another business eventually.”
Barnes and Voss have many reliable customers and employees. The co-owners have even come up with ways to get customers back: two punches on a punch card earns a free t-shirt and 4 results in a free detail.
The business wouldn’t be possible without the support of friends and family who have supported them.
Customer Kade Scholting said, “I started as a customer and was impressed with their work, and it inspired me to now become a worker with them.”
Bringing a common interest to a business is one thing not all students can do on top of normal busy schedules, but as a team they have made a name and business for themselves.
