In the United States, there is less than a 4% chance of having twins. It’s even more rare to have a set of twins on the same sports team. For the Louisville High School wrestling teams, they are lucky enough to wrestle two sets of twins. The dynamic of the twins is seen on the team and even in the stands.
The first twins that joined the wrestling team were Kamdyn and Kayne Olson as freshmen in 2023. Now sophomores, the Olsons continue supporting each other through their tournaments. What’s special about the Olsons is that they can compete at the same weight class, meaning spectators get to enjoy seeing doubles. Although the Olsons don’t always see the same results, they can see each other have fun.
“I think that at the end of the day, we do feel for each other and want both of us to succeed,” said Kamdyn.
The Olsons have even been caught hitting the same moves simultaneously. The twins compete at the same weight making it hard to watch each other’s matches. Kamdyn enjoys it because it lets her get into the zone instead of worrying about Kayne’s performance.
The second set of twins is Kloe and Kellen Knutson as freshmen this year. Unlike the Olsons, these wrestlers are able to see each other compete without having to prepare for a match at the same time. The Knutsons have always been able to enjoy playing the same sports with each other, such as their love for golf, but wrestling has always been their favorite sport to compete in.
“We’re able to learn different moves from watching each other,” said Kellen.
Both the Olsons and Knutsons can use their twin connections to help them succeed in their sports.
“[Kayne and I] are pretty much the same person on and off the mat… we do try our best to help each other if [we] ever need it,” said Kamdyn.
