Winter has arrived in Louisville, which means that winter break is around the corner. While winter does bring colder weather and cancels a lot of outdoor plans, it opens the door for all kinds of new journeys and traditions. Whether it's all the Christmas movies, different colored lights, or all the different activities that only happen during the winter. No matter what you may like, there is always something to enjoy or look forward to during this time. Here in Louisville it’s fun to see all the different ways Louisville students and faculty will spend their time this break.
Of course what is a break without being able to sleep in. For the past 5 months students and faculty have been working hard in the classroom, in our sports and activities, and finishing strong this semester. Even with the weekends, the work doesn’t stop. For the winter break many students and faculty are looking forward to the extra sleep. No more having to wake up early for 8 hours of school, plus more if involved in extracurricular activities. Now you can wake up at noon, watch some holiday movies, and just chill around.
While we all get a break, not all of us get to relax the entire time. For some students and coaches, sports such as basketball and wrestling are in full swing at the moment. With games and meets before and after the holidays, these students and coaches will still be pretty busy during the break. With one act coming to a close earlier this month, many participants are altering their focus on speech season. Other students are beginning to prep their pieces that they will be performing and anticipating their first meet coming in early January.
While sleeping in and doing activities mostly keeps you around Louisville during the break, others will be using this time to travel to families and friends for the holidays, or just to get away during this time off from school. Whether its family members up in Omaha or going on a cruise in the Bahamas, Louisville Lions will stay busy during the break.
Arguably the most common activity to do during the winter is to watch Christmas movies. It’s a good time to relax and spend some quality time with your family and friends. Louisville students and faculty were asked in a survey what their favorite Christmas movie was. With many great movies like Elf, Christmas Vacation, and Home Alone, one movie won by receiving over a quarter of the votes. The Grinch was voted as the favorite movie by the Lions. Continuing with holiday movies, brings up the question about if Die Hard is a Christmas movie? Out of the 108 Lions who voted, 32 said yes, 30 said no, and the rest have never even seen it.
Have a great break, Lions, and Happy Holidays!
