REASON FOR THE SEASON. The student council delivers a check to hopes closet with the food from the food bank fundraiser.

Many people think of the student council as a group of teenagers with the attributes of a leader but they are much more than that and their leadership qualities allow them to make important decisions in their community. What the community has seen in years past is 2 fundraisers within the year from the high school student council. This year they have done 5 in the first 6 months of the year. This group of students has really grown in a short time and that has a lot to do with the new sponsor and some new leadership. They have learned through trial and error that planning these fundraisers is tough and takes a lot of people to put them on.

Although all of the grade levels are represented on the council, the sophomore and juniors have taken the lead on these fundraisers.

Junior Macee Kiss said, “I feel like we are trying to become more involved with everyone at the school, and not just with certain groups of people. We are becoming more unified as a school instead of singular clubs or groups. ”

They have had many different events to help build and strengthen our community in a short time. One of the fundraisers was  a pie in the face contest, to which they donated the money to Hope's Closet. After that, they drove a sweet treat cart around parent-teacher conferences to the teachers for all of their hard work. Then they sold thankful cards that students could send to their peers with a piece of chocolate attached to them. In addition, they did a food drive and brought all donations to the food bank inside the Hope’s closet. Also, this month, they are doing a fundraiser to raise money for the Shop with a Cop Foundation so more kids can get gifts around Christmas time that they can’t afford. The Shop with a Cop fundraiser is ongoing, so visit a local business and donate.

Sophomore Stu-co member Kastyn Anderson said,” My favorite [fundraiser] was probably Hope's Closet because we got to walk down and we got to see the reaction and like, how thankful they were for our donations.”

These fundraisers have fed families, supported businesses, and impacted the community and livelihoods of people in the community.

Anderson said,” Our goal is just to help our community and help them grow as people, and help us grow as people.”

These fundraisers are very beneficial for the community, and it is important for the student council to have a part in them.

Anderson said, “ I feel like we gain a better relationship with the community, and it helps bring our school closer to the community, compared to it just being like the school separate from the community.”

These students want to have a say in big projects within the community, and they are doing just that by fundraising and reaching out to people.
