Volleyball is a dynamic sport characterized by serves, hits, blocks, assists, and digs. While many people enjoy watching volleyball, not everyone may understand its intricacies. Volleyball has many different positions including outside hitter, middle hitter, right side hitter, libero, and setter.
One of the many players who stood out on the Louisville Volleyball Team is starting setter, junior Teghan Swenson, who accomplished one of her many volleyball goals when she surpassed 1,000 career assists.
Swenson said without her teammates she wouldn't be able to accomplish this goal as quickly as she did. This accomplishment helped her finish the home tournament strong, defeating DC West at their home tournament on September 28th
Swenson said, “Going into the game, I knew I only needed a couple more to hit my goal. So it just kind of excites you to play the rest of the game, because you know that even if you win or lose at the end of the game, you accomplished something throughout it. So it definitely carried energy over into the rest of the sets.”
There were other big accomplishments on the team. Sophomore hitters Whitney Haynes and Braelyn Versen both achieved 200 career kills.
Junior Kelsey Haynes set an all time record for Louisville with the most digs in one season. Haynes passes Samantha Layne and Jaime Winkler with a season high of 484 digs.
All of these athletes’ accomplishments are huge stepping stones in their volleyball careers, and they are not done yet. Their season is over, but they are looking forward to next season.
