The audience goes silent, eyes light up, hearts stop for a second. Then, boom! An eruption of cheers ignites as freshman Elias Edwards lands a backflip. A large group of Louisville students circled up during this year's homecoming dance to watch a FRESHMAN steal the show.
“Don’t fall, don’t fall,” Edwards was repeating in his head before he jumped into the air.
Being a freshman, Edwards had no idea what to expect for his first ever homecoming. He had heard stories of it being fun and filled with energy but didn’t know what to expect for himself. Beforehand he had felt both nervous and excited, not knowing how much his night would change. Edwards, a lifelong gymnast, had no idea his talent would come into fruition that night.
Edwards became the center of attention for the rest of the night, doing flip after flip, as the crowd continued to grow in size each time. Some other students began to join in on the fun as more started to do their own flips or dance moves. To end off his long resume for the night, he started to breakdance!
Senior Cody Lutz recalls the moment he first saw Elias start to spin on the ground. “It came out of nowhere. Like nobody knew he could do that!”
Edwards brought life to the party and showed how fun a high school dance can be, even for an underclassmen.
