Louisville Elementary takes things to a new chapter as their principal is now a female. Louisville has not had a female principal for over ten years. Now the staff and students welcome Mrs. Katie Behounek.
First grade teacher Whitney Bell said, “She has brought a positive culture and climate between the students and the teachers.”
Behounek seems to be adjusting to the district smoothly. Many teachers have commented on how comfortable the students are talking to Behounek.
Behounek states, “ I always want to do my best and never disappoint anyone. Being new to the district just means that I have to learn the new routines and procedures and not be afraid to ask questions.”
Adjusting to new people in students' everyday lives can be a struggle for some children. Mrs. Behounek is creating a safe environment for students and teachers. Female leadership is growing but is still a topic that may take some by surprise
Bell said, “ I was surprised because not many females are principals. I think she does a great job putting a feminine touch on lots of different areas. If you go into the office it is more welcoming.”
Mrs. Behounek has created a positive environment for all. She has been consistent in the way she has adjusted schedules and rules for the student body. Working toward a new environment for not only the students but the teachers and parents too. Recently there have been parent teacher conferences, introducing the parents to the new trusted leader that has taught many students new ideas about daily life. Some of these positive changes have included schedules, more time focused on one specific thing, and many other teacher-student interactions.
Commonly known, young minds work harder when fueled. Eating lunch daily is crucial to child development.
Fifth grader, Harper Toelle stated, “We have five minutes at the beginning of lunch to eat our food before we can have conversations.”
In the past, students have shown less interest in eating during lunch; they would rather chat with their friends and catch up on their days.
Not even a semester has passed, and many have seen improvements stemming from Mrs. Katie Behounek, making Louisville Elementary a better learning environment for the student body.
