When you think of Homecoming you think of the dress or suit, the shoes, your date, pictures, and more. Most people's first thought isn’t dress-up themes, pep rally details, and activities for the week. The student council has the privilege of being the planner and coordinator of this highly celebrated week-long event.
There are a lot of people, ideas, and meetings that go into the planning of Homecoming.
Sophomore Aubrey Barry, a member of the student council said, “We start planning many weeks in advance. We have to get our plans approved by the admin, and we have to collaborate with the dance and cheer team to make sure everything is planned out.”
Planning all starts at the end of August and really starts rolling in the beginning of September. They had multiple meetings a week during Pride Time. They started by brainstorming the theme. Once they had a solid list they sent the choices into admin and the admin approved the ones that they thought were appropriate and creative. Once Meet me at Midnight was chosen, the next thing on the agenda is the themes for the week, which can be a challenge.
Barry said, “Creating an idea and themes that everyone will like or find fun and exciting, and then getting people to participate, is hard because we don’t want to make it too boy based or on the flip side too girl based cause then it gets boring.”
Although only a week, this event makes a huge impact on the students and the culture of the High School. This occasion is one of the most important weeks of the school year to the They also worked on planning the pep rally. Their goal was to get the student body involved, as well as include fun and entertaining events to keep the crowd interested. This year they did a relay and planned a fundraiser giving money to Hope's Closet, a nonprofit organization in the community of Louisville. This fundraiser was a pie in the face competition that included some of the school’s amazing staff. The two who were inevitably pied were Mr. Pettit and Mr. Kovar.
Mrs. Frahm Krick student council sponsor said, “The student council wanted to make this year about volunteerism and giving back to their community.”
This was a great way to start this initiative. The student council does many things to prepare for homecoming but this could not happen without their new sponsor. Mrs. Frahm Krick, is new to the sponsor role, but has made a huge impact on Louisville High Schools student council.
Frahm Krick said, “I had lots of great ideas that I wanted to see implemented in the school and student council is a great means to have that happen.”
