A Year with Frog and Toad is a musical all about friendship. Frog and Toad are best friends doing everyday activities together like raking leaves. This is the first musical at Louisville Public Schools since before director Erik Quam showed up.

“I felt like we finally have the right talent for the right roles,” he said.

This musical has always been a very, very special show for him. This was the first professional show that he got to take his older daughter, Eva, along with him.

The cast is made up of about 24 members. One of the cast members is senior Mya Stanley. This is Mya’s first year in One Act, and she plays one of the few birds in the play. Mya just wanted to experience something new, especially since this is the first musical in a long time.

Unlike Stanley, junior Beatrice Quam has been behind the scenes since her first year of high school. Now, she is the lead mouse sharing her talents with the crowd.

“I think I really just wanted to experience how it would be different. I also just wanted to dance and sing because it sounded fun!” Quam said.

Having experiences like these help high school students enjoy their time most. Of course, there have been some challenges along the way in creating this musical.

“One of the big issues we have is coordinating schedules,” Coach Erik said.

But just because there are some minor inconveniences doesn’t mean the cast doesn't know how to have fun. One of Erik’s favorite memories so far has been working with the four snails.

“They are a powerhouse quartet together, and we’ve had a ton of fun creating some really, really great characters with the snails, and I can’t wait for the audience to see them.”
