Students work hard throughout the year just to get a grade telling them they have achieved. A lot of students go above and beyond to earn special awards in their sports or classes. Hearing their name get called by one of the teachers or coaches is validation that can help make the long stressful year a bit better.
Freshman Eliza Plucknett said, “getting a certificate from my teachers helped me realize all my work I have done all year was noticed.”
Students may feel like teachers don’t notice all the work they put into their class by helping others or working hard to get good grades. Honors Night doesn't just give academic awards, but presents all the scholarships that the seniors have earned to help them in life after walking across the graduation stage on May 11.
Senior Gavin Pierce said, “Walking up after hearing all my scholarships was a nice way to see all the hard work I have done throughout my years of high school.”
For me, hearing my name and walking on the court just made the long nights studying and several mental breakdowns all seem worth it.
This year's Honors Night ran a bit differently than years before, and that's all because the counselors, Mrs. Carraher and Mrs. Huber, desired to make a difference on this special night.
Mrs. Carraher said, “We wanted it to be more personal and show the graduating seniors more about the donors for their scholarship that are gonna change their life.”
