The LHS Quiz Bowl team has always done in-person meets against other schools, but this year they decided to compete in a tournament over the radio. Quiz Bowl is a game in which two teams compete against each other answering questions about history, literature, science, fine arts, current events, pop culture, sports, etc. The moderator will read off each question and then the team captain will buzz in once they know the answer. Whatever team answers correctly will get the point for their team.
Meets over the radio are the same concept but have a few different rules. Both teams will get called in over the radio and the moderator will read off questions and each team gets 10 seconds to answer. There is no buzz-in system, so at the end of the 10 seconds whatever team knows the answer to the question will respond first.
“I feel like we should get more than 10 seconds,” said senior Alejandro Easey.
With the time being so short competitors have to be able to answer questions quickly. They don’t have any time to sit there and think like they normally would in a classroom.
“You have to be quick on your feet to answer each question,” said senior Samantha Shelsta.
The tournament was split into 3 days. Both teams got called in and the moderator went back and forth asking each team a question. The first team to answer three questions correctly wins. Captain Samantha Shelsta has the job of answering the prompt.
The Quiz Bowl team ended its season with a few wins. The team consisted of seniors who will be missed dearly. Overall Mr. York will be looking for young minds to make a new team for next year and to make radio competitions thrilling!
