Many people know prom as a night for juniors and seniors. What they don’t realize is that prom is also for journalists. Who else would get photos of the girls in their dresses and the boys in their suits? Since I was in charge of the prom page for the 2023-2024 yearbook, I got to experience what prom was like for the first time. I think it’s safe to say that I had more fun than most of the people there.
Walking in, it started raining on us. Perfect, I thought. We did a light jog because we were too out of shape to move any faster than that. When we rolled into prom, we had to get breathalyzed with the last of the attendees. When we made it in, everyone was laughing and started to gather around the dance floor. This might have been my favorite part because I got to see everyone's dresses. I whipped out my fancy high-end camera and started getting some snaps.
The dance was held at a venue this year. It was a beautiful setting. This year’s theme was the Roaring Twenties. Many decorations were very well-fitting for this. There was a backdrop of black and gold colors for students to take their photos, black and gold table centerpieces, and fun props for the juniors and seniors to use for pictures. For the whole two hours I was attending, juniors and seniors crowded the dance floor. There was never a dull moment between the dance zone and the chocolate fountain.
I threw myself onto the dance floor. I couldn’t hold myself back. The DJ was playing songs that I didn’t even know. Did this stop me? No. This is because I can get down to any kind of musical tunes. I spent the next hour and a half living on the dance floor. I remember from my freshman year homecoming, Finley Meisinger explained to me that she had never seen that side of me before. I don’t know how to explain it. The dance floor just brings out the best of me. Throughout the two hours, I was there, I got about two worthy yearbook pictures.
