Sometimes society wishes time would just slow down, but for the hundredth day of school on February 1st, the kindergarteners fast forwarded 100 years.
Most people don’t overthink about 100 years down the road, but kindergartener Jude Larson says he wants to play video games in 100 years. Hopefully, in a hundred years, they will still have controllers. Maybe we’ll all have virtual reality rooms.
Vada Helwig said she wants to be a hairstylist. Vada had a fantastic hairdo of curlers and glasses to wear on the 100th day of school. She and the whole kindergarten class dressed up. Many had their hair curled. Some even went so far as to put on gray eyebrows. A lot of kindergarteners had wrinkles drawn on their faces. Others had canes or walkers, and there were a lot of glasses.
Elementary classes did multiple activities relating to the 100th day of school. The kindergarteners and first graders made 100th-day posters. The posters had one hundred of their favorite items on them like marshmallows, stickers, or Legos. They counted to one hundred, wrote down one hundred words, and found one hundred Life Savers that were hidden around the room.
One of Jude Larson's favorite things to do on this special day was playing Principal Mathis in basketball.
Jude said, “We won last time, but we lost today.”
Helwig and Abigail Kavanaugh said their favorite part of the day was doing arts and crafts.
There is more to the hundredth day of school than just counting to 100.
One of three kindergarten teachers, Eileen Lay, said, “It takes them a little out of their comfort zone, and they learn that it is ok to laugh with one another and look silly.”
The kindergarteners have a lot of fun, whether it’s the first or the 100th day of school.
