Little Lion dancers practicing their dance before they perform in front of the crowd.

From the football field to the competition floor, there is always somebody watching. Role models can be found all over the world, but you can especially find them at Louisville Public Schools. The LHS dance team inspires younger girls and boys without even realizing it.

At halftime during the boy's basketball game on December 12th, kids of all ages rushed into the gym. They found their spots and got their boogie on. This year the theme was Western. They danced to “Hoedown Throwdown” by Hannah Montana and “Boot Scootin’ Boogie” by Brooks and Dunn. When they were done, the crowd went wild.

Sophomore dance team member, Kayla Bauer said, “My favorite part was seeing how the girls and boys interacted with each other and how they all got along.”

Bauer remembers what it was like as a little girl being a part of the Little Lion Dance Camp. She was timid as a child, but once she stepped onto the floor everything changed. She got to interact with different people from kindergarten to 12th grade. The experience brought her out of her shell and inspired her to be a dancer in high school. Bauer was a past participant who remembers the memories of the dance clinics.

Now as a dancer, she wants to create those same memories for the current Little Lions. 3rd grader Elaina Voss is one of those Little Lions.

Voss said, “I was nervous, but I like to dance with the older girls.”

To a young child, the older girls can be intimidating. This was not a problem for the kids doing the camp though. All of the dance team members had open arms and were more than willing to help the elementary kids.

Eastyn Christensen, a preschooler at Louisville Elementary said, “It was so much fun…I liked being the person in the middle during Little Sally Walker.”

It doesn’t matter what age, there is always fun that can be held at a dance clinic. Seeing their bright smiles from the bleachers, anyone could tell that they were enjoying their time in the spotlight.
