The connection between mothers and sons is a spectacular thing. Mothers will do anything to keep us safe and happy. But as time passes, their grip on us starts to slip. So they want to enjoy every second with us trying to cram memories with the little time they have left to spend with us. Because before we know it were out of the house and starting our own journey
Louisville’s amazing PTO set up a fundraiser, called Mother-Son Bowling Night. This wonderful event is for “earning money for the many events the PTO does throughout the year. Some examples are the Back to School Night, and the Teacher Appreciation Week at the end of the year,” said PTO member Kristina Ramaekers.
Loads of mothers attend with their sons, and even some of the hosts stay to have an enjoyable night. Starting off with check-in, then participants can take tickets if they bought them, and put them in raffle prizes, and once they are done with all of that, they get to eat some amazing pizza from Papio Bowl in Papillion. Then they grab their shoes and "destroy" the lanes.
"Usually the parents win, but this year, the kids schooled us,” said participant Becky Smart.
Participant Declan Smart said, “I used a trick where I slow bowl, and I got all the pins except one."
This activity is not just for the fundraiser, though, it is for mothers to have a special day where they can hang out with their sons. That is the most important part. To help give an opportunity to slow down in our busy lives and enjoy a special day with each other.
“We're always open to feedback. So if we start getting feedback that the group would like a different option, then we would absolutely look into doing a different activity,” said Ramaekers.
This event is a great time for mothers and their sons to pause their busy lives. It is an opportunity to enjoy the time we get to spend with each other. Because you never know when the next time you will be able to just take a minute and enjoy each others’ company.
