Many students from Louisville High School are joining the One Act family, and they are ready to start the masterpiece. This year 43 students have joined One Act. Everybody is thrilled, and they are ready to get the show on the road.
Erik Quam, the head coach of One Act, is totally in shock with everybody joining. He says everybody has always been welcomed, but he never expected so many people to join.
He said, “When I first started coaching in 2019, only 16 kids were part of One Act. Only 5 years later, there are over 70 kids participating.”
Mr. Quam also says how excited the students are this year. Play production is the most collaborative and involved type of art. He says he realizes that kids are figuring out how much fun it can be, and he is just as electrified.
The past 4 years the One Act program has done very serious shows. This year the coaches have decided to do a comedy. The show this year also has a few more cast members than before.
Junior cast member Emma Renner was part of the crew last year, but she wanted to expand her acting abilities. She has worked on getting better at acting, meeting new people, and getting her lines down. She has ended up learning so many different skills the last couple of months.
Renner said, “I have loved getting to experience the different parts of One Act.”
Both Quam and Renner think the show will do really well this year. They are most excited to see everybody come together and find their strengths. Throughout the time the cast has been working together, they have all been getting along great.
This year Renner thinks everybody can help to improve set up time. One Act has so many different people coming together, and putting a lot of different strengths together.
“I could not be more proud. The cast puts in so much effort, and then we get to welcome all of the cast members,” Mr. Quam said.
In the future, the One Act community encourages more students to join the team and get more involved in play production. With all of the diversity that this year has brought to One Act, they are hoping for a successful season. This is Louisville One Act's year!
