Dress up days, a pep rally, a football game, and a dance. Students look forward to homecoming week every September. The student council and their sponsor Mrs. Baker work hard. Cheer and dance also work together to make homecoming week special.
The themed dress up days are one of the main components of homecoming week at LHS. Student Council chose a new winner each day. Sophomore Jager Barnes won Spirit Day by wearing his yellow track pants and wrestling singlet. On Decade Day, junior Trevor Dalton took the cake by dressing as a congress member. Junior Paige Teller won for the Hollywood theme. Thursday was Country vs. Country Club and junior Cody Lutz went all out for country and was very excited for his win!
The parade and pep rally was moved to Wednesday because students didn’t have school on Friday. For the pep rally each cheer and dance girl chose a staff member to dance with.
Sophomore Macee Kiss really enjoyed dancing with the staff. She said, “I thought it was really fun, and I think that the students liked it. I hope we see that in the future.”
Cheer and dance decided on Hollywood for the theme this year, but also incorporated different themes within Hollywood for the dance. The cheer and dance teams set up different themes in each corner of the gym. The themes were Barbie, Top Gun, Taylor Swift, and the Beatles.
Kiss said, “I noticed that the majority of people were capturing their pictures in the Barbie box and with the Taylor Swift backdrop.”
Homecoming was relocated to the elementary gym, instead of the cafeteria. With there being a change in location, the admin had to figure out new ways to chaperone. Mrs. Baker was one of the chaperones this year. Having three administrators really helped because it kept all of the kids in line and made sure no one was causing trouble.
Mrs. Baker said, “Safety is always going to be, from our teacher's perspective, the number one concern when we make decisions.”
This time of year really brings out kids' personalities. It really shows how much fun students are having at these events.
Mrs. Baker said, “I loved seeing everybody dancing and everyone join in for the conga line!”
