Mr. Hagge is known as the oldest teacher at Louisville Public Schools. He is a biology teacher and loves to teach about animals and living things. Many people might not know about his love for scuba diving. Little did Mr. Hagge know that a little dive shop in the Dominican would have a lifelong effect on his life.
Mr. Hagge’s passion for scuba diving ties in with the teaching that he does at Louisville. One of the main reasons he decided to become a certified scuba diver was to learn more about life underwater.
Teaching was not always his first choice of a job.
“In high school, I helped some of the teachers in the school and that was when I decided I loved teaching,” said Mr. Hagge.
Before completely deciding what he wanted to do, he thought about becoming a physical therapist. Once he did some job shadowing around his town he decided becoming a physical therapist wasn’t for him.
Mr. Hagge loves all animals, but one animal that he hasn’t always gotten along with is Richard the cat. The cat was a rescue that his daughters found and wanted to keep. Mr. Hagge, loving animals, decided that he wouldn’t mind having two cats in the house. Richard would never look at him though, and it made him quite upset.
Mr. Hagge said, “I watched a documentary to try and learn what I was doing wrong. I found out that I need to slow blink at the cat.”
Richard finally warmed up to him after trying for a long time.
Even though Mr. Hagge has been teaching at Louisville for quite some time, he has never had an experiment go wrong. The only bad thing that has ever happened to him was when he set the fire alarm off three days in a row.
Mr. Hagge puts a smile on everyone's faces throughout the day. The science department at Louisville High School would not be the same without our scuba diving teacher.
