From one small town to another, Louisvilleās new physical education teacher Mr. Watts sure knows what it is like to experience them.
āI like the small town-like community vibe. Everyone in the community is pretty close,ā said Mr. Watts, describing Louisville.
Mr. Watts grew up in Hiawatha, a town in Northern Kansas that is only 20 minutes south from rival Falls City. With a population of 3,200, it certainly does beat Louisvilleās 1,400, but it surely creates the same small town feel Mr. Watts is used to.
In only his 2nd year out of Washburn University in Topeka, Kansas, Mr. Watts finds himself back in a small town. He has taken over the position for the high school weights and P.E. classes. He will also be taking the assistant basketball coach alongside Mr. Haun and the Lady Lions this winter season. Mr. Watts is an outstanding fit for the Louisville athletic programs, as he has a long history of playing throughout his life. Growing up he played football, basketball, and baseball, eventually getting an offer to play baseball at Washburn.
In his first year at Washburn, Mr. Watts originally wanted to become a physical therapist, but as he learned more, it became apparent that it wasnāt for him and he needed a change.
āI liked the idea of coaching, but still being a teacher.ā Mr. Watts said.
Having an athletic background, he wanted to get into physical therapy. But once he noticed all the paperwork and other factors that he would have to deal with, he decided it was not for him. Finding his new passion, Mr. Watts decided to become a teacher. Instead of going away from sports completely, he found out about the physical education program and decided to go with that.
After a short stint at a high school in Kansas. Mr. Watts made his way to Louisville and is ready to make an impact.
