The person who makes food for everyone every day at your school has a story.
Chef Rodney grew up on a dairy farm in Michigan, later joining the Army for 12 years being a part of the 82nd Airborne Division. He broke his leg during a parachute accident that led to him having to give up that life, and becoming a chef. He went to culinary school through the army, which was inspired by his mother.
He just loves to prepare food for people, so he drives an hour and a half to Louisville everyday. He has done it for several schools such as Blair, Elkhorn, and DC West. His favorite part being the interactions with the kids and him getting to make jokes.
Every chef has a least favorite thing to make; his is mac and cheese. “This is hard but ... for my grandkids ... don’t like my mac and cheese. They like the box mac and cheese,” he said.
Chef Rodney cooks for so many students, but who cooks for him?
He said, “My wife does on occasion, but every time she does, she sets off the fire alarm, so I do most of the cooking.”
Chef Rodney has a blog which is done by his wife, who he has known since they were 5 years old and became high school sweethearts. He later had 5 kids, 11 grandkids, and 2 great grandchildren.
All in all, appreciation is due deserved for the chef behind it all.
